NOVEMBER  PRESENTATION
“ The Great Turkey Givaway”

Presented by:

Fife-Pearce Electric

TOPIC

Problems and Fixes of Variable Frequency Drives

The new AEGIS iPRO Bearing Protection Ring provides high current bearing protection for large motors and generators.  High frequency shaft voltages over 600 volts with currents over 60 amps cause motor and generator bearing failures.  The AEGIS iPRO Conductive MicroFiber Bearing Protection Ring reduces maintenance and prevents catastrophic electrical discharge machining bearing failure by safely channeling harmful currents to ground.  Using proprietary Electron Transport Technology the conductive microfibers inside the AEGIS iPRO provide the path of least resistance for damaging bearing currents.  This process prevents electrical damage to motor and generator bearings dramatically extending their operating life.

President’s Notes

November’s meeting presenters will be John Shepard and Adam Willwerth from Electro-Static Technology and they’ll be sponsored by current SEMPPES member Roger Pearce of Fife-Pearce Electric.  They’ll be covering a subject that I’m having a lot of issues with at the AAA Administrative Office Building in Dearborn…that being stray currents from variable frequency drives and the damages they do. Don't forget that the meeting date is the second Thursday of November which is the 13th!

November is also our “Great Turkey Giveaway Night” and we’ll be raffling off a honey baked ham and a half dozen turkeys.  Don’t forget to RSVP for our monthly meetings as it really helps the staff at our restaurant, Dimitri’s on the Avenue.

The Christmas Party is right around the corner, Saturday December the 6th and will be held at the Ritz-Carlton in Dearborn.  SEMPPES is donating two gift certificates to our traditional “appreciate your significant other” Christmas raffle and Dennis Insley of Associated Design & Services has matched up and bettered  with a donation of four gift certificates.  Dennis has also put the challenge forth to other associated members to donate to “our significant others” with like gift certificates.  No better cause than the folks behind the scenes supporting us with love and devotion.  There will be no monthly meeting in December in lieu of our Christmas event.

Associate SEMPPES member, John Carlos from Energy Solutions, has helped 2009 SEMPPES President Eric Cameron set up United States Green Building Council’s Jim Newman for a green building / LEED presentation at January’s monthly meeting.  Jim Newman is a USGBC guru and very difficult due to time constraints to pin down for speaking engagements.  Mr. Carlos, as the SEMPPES liaison with the USGBC, turned the right buttons and got Mr. Newman to agree to speak to SEMPPES.  Mr. Newman will be discussing the meat and potato issues of getting a building green certified.  There’ll be no fluff to this presentation…this will be the real deal with technical aspects of certification clarified so bring your green questions to the meeting and expect hard core answers.

Chicken Soup for the Engineer's Soul

The Engineer >From Hell

An engineer dies and reports to the pearly gates. St. Peter checks his dossier and says, “Ah, you’re an engineer — you’re in the wrong place.” So the engineer reports to the gates of hell and is let in.

Pretty soon, the engineer gets dissatisfied with the level of comfort in hell, and starts designing and building improvements. After a while, they’ve got air conditioning and flush toilets and escalators, and the engineer is a pretty popular guy.

One day God calls Satan up on the telephone and says with a sneer, “So, how’s it going down there in hell?” Satan replies, “Hey, things are going great. We’ve got air conditioning and flush toilets and escalators, and there’s no telling what this engineer is going to come up with next.” God replies, “What??? You’ve got an engineer? That’s a mistake — he should never have gotten down there; send him up here.” Satan says, “No way. I like having an engineer on the staff, and I’m keeping him.” God says, “Send him back up here or I’ll sue.”

Satan laughs uproariously and answers, “Yeah, right. And just where are YOU going to get a lawyer?”
